I used to work at a coffee place that was attached to a bigger restaurant. We had to serve the coffee out of the side of the building so there was a small door between the kitchen and the coffee shop. The kitchen staff had a habit of calling in sick so we had to serve the coffee and food. We were also required to wear those hair tied up restaurant uniforms and none of us like them.

The kitchen staff hated us and we hated the kitchen staff. They were very sexist towards us as we were four young women working together. They were always calling us “sluts” behind our backs and making snide comments when we asked for help with orders. They used to purposely mess up the orders and then say that it was our fault that it was messed up. One time a customer asked to speak to a manager and the kitchen staff said it was me, a young girl, not an actual manager.

One day I was working and a lady went to order take out and said she needed it right away because she had to pick up her sister from the airport. She asked if she could go to the front of the line. The kitchen staff behind the door heard her and said no because she was a girl and a slut. I overheard them and said she had a valid reason and she should be allowed to go to the front of the line. The kitchen staff got pissed at me and the head chef came out and told me to let the next customer in. I said no because I was in charge of the coffee shop and the customers came to me.

The kitchen staff got pissed and told on me.
