What's Going On In Danvers, Massachusetts?

The first time I heard this story was about 17 years ago when I was 14 years old. I can’t verify if it’s true or not, but what the hell, it’s a good story.<br><br>So back in the 70s this guy named John was taking a road trip across the country when he stops for gas in Danvers, Mass. When he’s done, he rolls down his window and leans across the passenger seat to open the door. At that point, a woman sticks her head in the window and says, “Where are you going?”<br><br>He was startled, but thought she was probably just curious. So he smiled and said he was headed west. She looked worried and said, “You shouldn’t be doing that. It’s not safe.” <br><br>He thought she was joking but she just looked concerned. He assured her he’d be fine and turned to start the car. Just then, she looked around nervously and leaned forward, whispering in his ear, “Be careful. There’s a lot of mean people out there.”<br><br>He nodded and drove off.<br><br>So far, no big deal, right? <br><br>Well, it actually wasn’t that far and he had to stop for gas a few more times including once in Chicago. Every time he stopped for gas, the same woman would be there at the end, asking where he was going and giving the same warning. <br><br>That’s when he started getting freaked out. But he didn’t say anything because he didn’t want to seem like a weirdo. He just nodded in confusion and moved on.<br><br>He made two more stops and she was at both of them, same thing every time. This was his last stops and after he got back on the highway, he figured he’d never see her again. But just as he was drifting off to sleep, he woke up to someone leaning over across the passenger seat…opening the door. <br><br>He looked over and it was the same woman. She smiled and said, “Where are you going?”<br><br>John lost it. He started freaking out when just then, a pair of hands reached from behind him and wrapped around his face, covering his eyes.<br><br>The next thing he knew, he was waking up beside the road, on the outskirts of Danvers, Mass. There was no one in sight.<br><br>Was it a dream? He had no idea.<br><br>But he never forgot that strange encounter in Danvers, Mass.
