Why calibers over .308 are popular with hunters

There are a few reasons for this: 1. The .308 isn't the best round for hunting larger game at close range, 2. Hunters might be traveling to areas with real big game with high kinetic force requirements, 3. Due to the mindset of bigger = more kinetic force which is true but bigger = more recoil which isn't always good for marksmanship.
