CMV: The Democratic party has no choice but to run Bernie Sanders in 2024 if they want to win

Firstly, the general sentiment of the American population has swung heavily to the left. You only have to look at the amount of people that have shifted to the left in recent years (i.e. young people realising that capitalism isn't working for them, Biden's election being the most obvious example, but also the fact that the vast majority of young people seem to be left-wing now). If you look at the polls, you can see that the majority of people in America now support things like a $15 an hour minimum wage, which was a non-existent thing in politics in the 2016 election. You also only have to look at the amount of people that voted for the Green party, or switched to the Green party, in the last election, to see that people are *frustrated* with the lack of left wing options. You can also look at the fact that 8 of the 9 Democratic primaries, Bernie Sanders won by double digits. <br><br>The fact that Bernie Sanders won every demographic (yes, even young republicans), by a large margin, proves that the majority of Americans are now left wing. I think that if the Democratic party didn't run Bernie Sanders, they would be alienating their own voterbase. People, including myself, voted for Biden, but because of the fact that he was running against Trump, and because of the fact that he was the closest thing to a left wing candidate the Democratic party would allow. We have to remember, Biden is just as neoliberal as any other Democratic candidate, and he's even worse than Clinton. <br><br>If the Democrats run another neoliberal candidate in 2024, and if they lose (and I think they will, because Trump has a strong chance of winning again, and even if he doesn't the Republican party is already making plans for his re-election), I think there will be a civil war of sorts in the party. I think the party will be destroyed by people who are unhappy with how things went. I think the Greens will benefit heavily from this. It's very likely that we'll end up with Trump again, or at the very least, a president that is to the right of Biden.<br><br>You can also see that the Democrats are trying to prevent another Bernie Sanders from winning the nomination, by giving other candidates the same amount of time on tv, which is a huge problem for Bernie. <br><br>The only way to win the next election is to run Bernie Sanders, if they don't, I think the party will collapse.
