Why USA seems to think we will have be taken over by socialism/communism?

I am European. I have been watching this country for quite some time. I can’t understand why socialism/communism is such a bad thing to people? People ask me if I can think of positive effects of socialism. I mean, yeah, those are the basics. Education, police, roads, healthcare etc. obviously it companies to how USA seems to think small government is positive. <br><br>But why do people seem to envision a full blown Soviet Union situation when someone talks about socialism? I will admit, I haven’t fully read Marx manifesto, but I can tell it was written a long time ago and not really modern. I don’t agree with modern capitalist methods. But I am riddled with confusion that someone can think that healthcare is not a human right.
