I recently posted this in a comment, but I realize this is a topic that warrants more of a full post, rather than a 300-word comment. The U.S. healthcare system is in shambles, but this has been the case for decades. The U.S. has the best hospitals in the world, the most highly trained doctors in the world, and the best medical equipment in the world. Despite the rising costs and increasing number of uninsured, this has not been the case for decades. I realize that the lack of universal healthcare is a problem, but I don’t see how it is a crisis. A crisis, by definition, is a situation that is extremely critical and urgent, requiring immediate action. I don’t believe that the U.S. healthcare system is at this point.

I have two major points here:

1. The U.S. healthcare system has always been expensive. Even decades ago, the cost of healthcare in the U.S. was significantly more than in other countries. Despite this, the healthcare system was still working well. The U.S. had access to the best doctors, hospitals, and equipment, and the system was working well for most people. I believe that this will continue to be the case, even if more people are uninsured.
2. Most people who are uninsured are still getting the care they need. I have met countless people who are uninsured, and most of them are not going without care. They may not get as many preventive services as they should, but they will get the care they need when they need it.

I also think that the media is sensationalizing this issue to sell ads. If people think that the healthcare system is a crisis, they will be more likely to click on an article that says “Your insurance is going away! What are you going to do?”. It is clear that this is not the case. I understand that this is not what you want to hear, but I don’t think that the U.S. healthcare system is in crisis. It is a problem that needs to be solved, but I don’t think it is a crisis.
