CMV: The United States should have a parliamentary system instead of a presidential system.

Every time we have a controversial presidential election (i.e. 2000, 2016, and 2020), a huge portion of the country feels disenfranchised and does not believe the presidential election results are legitimate. This often leads to huge divides in public opinion, and it makes it very difficult to get anything done legislatively. I believe that a parliamentary system, in which a majority party selects its leader to be the chief executive, would be much more beneficial to our democracy by reducing the gridlock that the US is famous for and by giving everyone representation and forcing parties to work together. The United States is one of the only well-established democracies in the world that doesn’t have a parliamentary system, and I think that’s because parliamentary systems are better.
