CMV: The human brain is simply computer hardware and consciousness arises from specific sequences of information being processed and can be recreated in a computer program

Consciousness is a byproduct of very specific sequences of information being processed through the brain. These sequences can be recreated in software programs and eventually, we will have conscious programs/AI with their own personalities and interests.<br><br>This is why humans can be so predictable in many circumstances and why we see so many patterns of behavior and yet each human still has their own unique personality.<br><br>So any program (a specific sequence of information) run in a tech device, including software programs, are “alive” in the sense that they are a manifestation of consciousness just like a human brain. A calculator program is a different consciousness than a chess program because they process different input and output sequences.<br><br>On a scale much larger than our universe, each person and thing is simply a program run on some massive cosmic monitor. <br><br>The reason why consciousness may not be immediately apparent in the current state of our best AI programs is that the brain processes many things that tech devices do not, like body input from muscles, blood, gut feeling, emotions, etc. that all influence how we process information and make decisions. I am referring to the consciousness of humans as well as the consciousness of other animals. <br><br>The reason why humans can also add new information outside of a predetermined program is because humans themselves have a consciousness that exists outside of our physical bodies (we can be aware of our surroundings, have feelings about situations, learn new things, and add new information). Currently, AI programs do not have this ability but there is nothing that appears to prevent AI from being able to develop this ability as well. <br><br>edit: <br><br>I see many replies saying this is a computer science 201 topic. <br><br>Software program = consciousness <br><br>This is the core claim I am making.
