The left in the USA has lost a lot of ground in recent years, especially the 2016 election. It's easy for the right to look at this and say "they're losing the information war". However, the right has been spreading this idea for a long time, and it's often used to explain why they lost elections, such as 2012 (Obama won) and 2008 (Obama won). In the 2016 election the right says that the left lost the information war, and it's their way of saying "we didn't win, we got lucky".

To me, the right uses the left losing the information war as a way to explain away their losses, and it's not actually about the left. The right is just using this idea as a way to say they lost because they had a bad candidate, the media was biased, etc. The right uses this idea to deflect criticism of themselves and their candidate.

This is why the right uses this idea to explain away both their losses and wins. When Hillary won in 2016, they say the right lost the information war and didn't win. When Obama won in 2012 and 2008, they say the right lost the information war and didn't win. When Trump won in 2016, the right say the right won the information war and that's why they won. When Trump lost the popular vote in 2016, the right says the left lost the information war. It's just used to explain away what the right is doing.
