I feel like we are ingraining into the boys minds that girls are fragile.

I’m getting frustrated with this whole boys vs girls in class. I teach 6th and 7th grade. I try to treat everyone equally. It’s very frustrating that I get emails from parents saying to please watch that there is a 6th grade girl with a hair tie in her hair because she is prone to hair pulling and she can only tolerate a hair tie for 10 minutes. Okay. Please don’t pull your hair. I will try to remind you after 10 minutes.

Getting a text from a parent at 9am saying please make sure that 7th grade Sally doesn’t have a pen today as she will spill the ink on herself, so please make sure she has a pencil. Okay. Please don’t open your pen.

Getting an email from a parent asking me to please speak to 7th grade Johnny because he is being mean to Sally.

When Johnny asks to use the washroom, I need to keep an eye on him to make sure he is not running down the hallway because he has a fractured metatarsal bone.

When girls approach me to talk, I need to ask them if they are comfortable talking with me one-on-one as they may have experienced trauma in the past and being in a small space can be overwhelming.

I get emails on the best way to approach girls on how to approach them. I need to approach girl A with my right side, and girl B with my left side.

I work hard to make sure that everyone has what they need, but it does seem to be a lot of females being catered to and I feel like I’m ruining the boys by making them come across as complete a-holes.

I realize that everyone needs their own accommodations and I will do my best to make sure they have them. But I do feel like it seems to be heavily weighted towards girls.
