I (27F) decided to take my daughter (16F) to a strip club to teach her a lesson. I don't know how to handle this now.

For context, my daughter, let's call her Tanya, is a pretty typical teen. She has a easy life, good looking, popular, smart. A few months ago she has been becoming really hard to deal with. It's been small things, like always being on her phone at the dinner table, refusing to clean the dishes, not wanting to help out despite living with us rent free.

Last night she had gotten into her and her brother's room, stolen his ~$60 pair of headphones, and used them for a school project. She didn't even give him credit and took the credit for her self. Not only that but she left them at school and it turns out they were a gift from one of his friends and was a special edition pair.

The next time I seen her I asked her why she took her brothers head phones. She said she needed a presentation for her history presentation and she didn't have time to go to the store so she was going to buy him new ones Monday but how I was angry was unreasonable.

I started raising my voice at her and she said I didn't have a reason to be mad. She said I was a hypocrite because I spent my whole life as a stripper and she is only doing this so she can keep going to college.

I decided I was at my wits end. I told her we were going out to dinner and she was going to open her mouth and do as I said or I would cut her off financially. I took her to a strip club. I knew of one of the girls, a single mother, who was very close with one of the other dancers. She is a very kind girl and I'd known her for years. She gave a lot of her money away.

We went inside and I told Tanya that she was going to sit there, do as I said, and not say a word otherwise I would cut her off financially. I asked the young woman who's name we will call Lily if she could come out and talk to Tanya for a minute. She came out in a bunny suit.

I asked her if she would do me a favor and show Tanya what it is like to be a stripper. Tanya was quiet and listening so I continued. I told Lily we would pay her $100 if she would just talk to Tanya for 10 minutes about what it is like.

She agreed and she sat down next to Tanya. I asked Tanya if she knew why I brought her here. She said no, but I could tell she was scared. Lily started talking.

"You see, Tanya. I got into stripping to make extra money. I do it part time because working a minimum wage job isn't enough to cover my student loans and my rent, let alone my kids needs. I've had this job a couple years. I don't like it, but I don't think anyone does. I had to stop taking my classes. I don't make much money, even with tips. The owner takes most of it and I have to pay for my costumes and travel. I even share a room with one of the other girls just to save on rent. I'm a single mother and my son needs to eat first. He is nieted first."

Tanya just looked at her and said "why doesn't your son's father pay child support?"

I was about to tell her to shut up and be quiet but Lily responded before I got a chance. She stepped closer and looked Tanya dead in the eyes.

"I'd rather work my ass off in a shit job than have that abusive piece of shit involved in my son's life. I'd rather have him grow up with a hard working, kind mother than to let him grow up with a drunk, abusive, piece of shit father like his real father. You don't know what it's like to have to worry about your kids needs. You haven't had to worry about that your whole life."

I was shocked. I had never heard Lily talk in that tone before. Tanya started crying and Lily continued talking.

"I've been where you are. I was once a pretty, young girl. I had my whole life ahead of me. I was so fortunate and I didn't know it. I was stupid just like you. I took advantage of all of my opportunities. You don't know how good you have it. I've worked my whole life, I've tried to make a better life for myself, but I will never be able to give my son the life you have had. You are so selfish, self centered, and entitled. You don't deserve your parents."

Tanya was crying loudly now. I was ready to leave but still wanted her to see the rest of what I had planned.

Lily continued "You take advantage of everyone. Your brother, your parents, everyone. You are unappreciative. Life is not all about you. Your brother works hard for what he has and you take advantage of that. Your parents work hard for you to live a better life and you still don't appreciate it. You are a terrible daughter. I hope you grow up to be a better mother."

I stood up and asked if it was okay if I changed in the back with Tanya. Lily said sure and I took Tanya to the back. I told her we were going to go on stage. She said no, but I told her she was going to do what I said or I would cut her off financially. She broke down crying even more. I told her if I didn't see her out on the stage in 10 minutes, I would leave her there without any money and drive away.

I changed into a bikini and went out. I danced. I collected my tips and then came back. Tanya was still in the back crying. I told her it was time to go and she said okay. We left and drove home in silence.

It's been a few days since then. Tanya has been quiet her whole time but hasn't done anything bad since. I told her to clean the house and she did. She did all of her chores and even her homework. She has been quiet though.

Tanya's father is upset about all of this. He said I shouldn't have taken Tanya to a strip club with strangers. He said that it wasn't going to help her and it was making her worse. He asked if I was still doing this to get back at her and make things worse. He said that if I was trying to make her feel special that it was backfiring.

I don't know what to do now. I still don't like my daughter but I love her still. I know that she is my daughter and I would do anything for her. I don't think she is a bad person, just spoiled.
