In 1989 the US saw a soft revolution with the end of the USSR. The US came out on top. It was an easy time to be a revolutionist.

The end came quickly for the USSR and was taken over by new leaders. Now it is Russia. This is what it is like at the end of totalitarian regimes in general.

Only a few totalitarian regimes remain. The term totalitarian regime is often thrown out and misused. You could categorize China as fascist.

China is one of the few remaining totalitarian regimes. The very last one might be North Korea.

That is not what this is about though. The Chinese people are expressing dissent. They are being arrested. They are being beaten. They are being killed.

The Chinese government is on the path to a revolution.

Revolution happens slowly. Revolution takes time. A lot of the time, the end of a totalitarian regime has a civil war. This is what is happening in China.

There are a lot of examples in history. I don’t think it can be disputed that China is on this path.

Edit: I was also thinking. Is China currently a totalitarian regime? Maybe it isn’t. I am still reading. What makes a regime totalitarian? How does North Korea fit into this? What makes China and North Korea different? Why did I categorize China as totalitarian to begin with?

On the surface it appears, there is very little difference between China and North Korea. It is probably the most similar modern day regime to North Korea.

Speak evil of Kim Jong-un and he will kill you. Speak evil of Xi Jinping and he will throw you in a concentration camp.

Very similar to North Korea, there is little to no distinction between the regime and Chinese people.

From a website I found outlining the key features of totalitarian regimes:

*Dictatorship, or one person in control, with no checks on their power.
*Government control over all aspects of society, including the economy, religion, and media.
*Propaganda used by the government to create a cult of personality and promote the regime’s goals and ideals.
*A secret police force used to gather information on citizens and suppress dissent.
*Mobilization of the population in support of the regime and suppression of opposition.*

Personally, that is what both North Korea and China seem like.
