I'm a man, and I'm going to add my 2 cents to this thread. YES, I'm afraid of being lynched by the mob because of a misunderstanding.

Hi. I'm a 23 year old man from Brazil.<br><br>I'm watching this unfold, and I want to say: I'm also not happy, I'm also afraid of being lynched, I'm also afraid of being accused.<br><br>The point is: I've been through this shit, I've seen this shit and I'm afraid to be the next one. I know what's happening to this girl is terrible, I'm not saying that my situation is worse, but it does hurt to see this, it hurts to see this shit happening and people just cheering. No one stops to think that this man could be innocent, no one stops to think if the punishment is proportional to what really happened.<br><br>I'm not saying that this girl is lying, I'm just saying that social media does damages, damages that can't be undone.<br><br>Let me tell you my story:<br><br>When I was 17, I had a long-term relationship with a girl, which was my first relationship. So, we used to send texts, we used to talk all the time. One day, I woke up to around 50 messages from her, most of them saying she hates me, she will kill me, she will burn my house, she will kill my dog and stuff like that. I was like: what the fuck? Then, I texted my sister and my parents, asking if I did anything, if I said anything wrong, if I did anything that could hurt her feelings, and they were all like: "No". Then, the shit started... She started to spread rumors that I was a pedophile, that I was a rapist, that I was a murderer. Soon, I was being threatened by people in my city, people I didn't even knew, people I've never met. I was being threatened by her friends, her family... My family was threatened, my sisters, my cousins... I was receiving death threats in social media, people saying they would kill me if they saw me in the street, people saying my house was gonna be burned down and that they would stone my family to death. I was receiving texts, calls, emails, messages from everywhere, all with death threats.<br><br>My family lost business, my mother got fired, my father was arrested for using a pepper spray gun against a group of people that were surrounding my house, trying to break into my house, trying to get to me.<br><br>I was beat up in front of a mall, beat up by a group of people in front of my mother. I was beat up by a group of people in my college, I was almost killed by a group of 4 guys that tried to hang me in a square near my house. My dog was poisoned, my car was damage, my house was robbed.<br><br>My life was turned upside down, my family was threatened, my sister was threatened, my cousin and her husband were threatened and their house was shot.<br><br>Then, it all stopped... The police arrested the girl, and they discovered that she was sending all those texts, making all those phone calls, sending all those messages and emails. They discovered she was behind all those threats, behind all those attacks.<br><br>They arrested her, and nothing happened. She was not charged with anything, she was just "sent to therapy" and nothing happened. She's now married, with a baby, with a career and nothing happened to her.<br><br>So, I'm not saying this girl is lying, but I'm saying social media does harm, real harm. People just go to the " lynching mob" without knowing what's going on, without knowing what really happened.<br><br>Sorry for the long post.
