The Cancun hotel zone is really really empty, but it's still crazy expensive.

I'm down here on a business trip, staying in a Westin hotel in the hotel zone. It feels like I'm in a zombie apocalypse. The only people I see out are hotel workers and people at the restaurants, and they're all wearing masks. No one is on the beach and there are 3 people in the pool. It's kind of cool.

But I got lunch from a sandwich shop, and it was $25 for a pretty average chicken sandwich. I tipped another $5 for the guy to deliver it to my hotel room. I'm not even mad, tips must be way down, but it's not a great value.

I'm stuck in a conference room all day, but tonight some people from the office are taking us out for dinner. Good chance to try a place away from the hotel zone.

The hotel room itself is really nice. It's 420 sqft, has a full wet bar, and a nice size balcony. But it was not cheap. It's not as nice as a Cancun timeshare, and that's what you get with an all-inclusive Cancun resort. The good news is you can probably get a really good deal on a timeshare down here. I'm kind of considering it.

I'd come back down here in a minute, but I'd stay at an all-inclusive resort next time.
