Invasive species are, by definition, non-native species (either from other parts of the world or from other parts of the same country) that are more successful in their new environment than in their native environment, leading to an explosion of their population that is detrimental to and unbalancing of the ecosystem of their new home. While the immediate instinct is “they’re bad; we should get rid of them,” in reality, most of these species are invasive because they have no natural predators in the new area. (Rabbits in Australia, Burmese pythons in Florida, English ivy in the Pacific Northwest, etc.) A invasive species is generally non-endemic to the area, generally has no natural predators, and generally is causing harm by outcompeting native species and disrupting the food chain. With these facts in mind:

What would happen in an ecosystem if a non-native species has no competitors, but it also has no natural predators and is also not at the top of the food chain in its native environment?
