“Improvements” to.Shopping centre security, in the name of keeping people safe, actually does more damage than good.

I hate shopping centre security. At the end of each day, they take an extra set of precautions to lock down the centre, where all the security doors get locked and it makes the building extra secure.

But they do this by locking extra, outer doors, that have the closest exits to the car parks. If there was an emergency, fire, disaster etc, people would have to take a detour to an alternative exit that is much busier and not as close to the car parks.

My shopping centre does this every day. Every business closes at 5, but the centre itself doesn’t close until 9. The security guards shut down the entire building at 5, as if the place is closed, but it isn’t. They lock down all the extra doors, and have a security booth in the car park that makes sure people don’t do burnouts/loose their minds/etc. I’ve never seen a car go rogue in the car park, and I’ve never seen a security issue on the inside, but just to be sure, we better lock down the extra doors, and make people exit through a more crowded area. It’s good for the environment, in a way, because people carpool together.

If anyone ever needed to evacuate in a hurry, they’d be fucked.
