Why Are Democrats So Afraid of Progressive Policies?

#EDIT: Because of the questions we have been receiving in the comments, I feel the need to clarify some things: First, I am not arguing that the Democratic party did not move to the left during the Obama years. Second, I am not trying to argue that we should give up on the Democratic party, but rather that we use Democrats to push the Democrats to the left. Third, I am not saying that we go and vote for a third party candidate. Fourth, I am not trying to argue that we give up on the Democrats in the next 6 weeks. Fifth, I am not saying that the Democratic party is the same as the Republican party.

Republicans are not poising huge threats to democracy, and I know Democrats do not pose that threat. Sixth, I am not poising the question, "But what about rural areas?" won't work here. Seventh, I have been a Democrat my entire life, and I have proven that with my actions: I am a co-leader of my school's Young Democrats chapter, I've done canvassing for campaigns, I'm in a campaign training program, I've interned for a Democratic campaign, I've debated Republicans, I've gone to campaign events, and I've been a campaign manager for a Democratic campaign (though it is a relatively new campaign). Eighth, I have no reason to hate the Democratic party, other than I am progressively a democrat. Ninth, I don't tweet, I won't tweet, I don't do anything on social media, other than use Chambers to give my opinion as to why I am against the Democratic party. Tenth, I am a firm believer that no matter what your identity is, you won't be represented under the current crop of Democratic leadership.

Now, for the post:

Democrats have been viewed as the more progressive of the two parties in the United States since at least the progressive era. The Democrats always ran to the left in the general election, and governed from the left. They started going more to the left during the Obama years, and have even run from the left during the 2016 election, 2018 election, and 2020 election. But yet, Democrats are actually governing from the right, when they have the presidency and at least one chamber of Congress. Democrats, as an establishment, moved to the left during the Obama years, and have sought to move even further to the left following his presidency.

If you look at the Democratic party as a whole, they have progressively moved to progressive and liberal policies. But yet, the leadership of Democrats has actually progressively moved further to the right, and are actually governing further to the right. For example, Obama promised universal healthcare, but instead gave healthcare that only helped the uninsured get health insurance. Pelosi ran in 2018 as a champion of progressive policies, but instead, she won't even let progressive legislation have a vote. The Democrats ran from the left in 2020, but then when they won, they say that Biden won because he ran to the right. Democrats are running from the left in 2022 and 2024, but they are governing from the right.

This makes no sense. Democrats, as a whole, are more progressive, but Democrats, as an establishment, are more conservative. I don't see how Republicans are poising huge threats to democracy, but Democrats won't even run on progressive policies and run progressive candidates. Republicans always run on conservative policies and run on conservative candidates.

Democrats, as an establishment, are always moving to the right, while Republicans, as an establishment, are progressively moving to conservative policies. Republicans run on conservative candidates and conservative policies and run on them, and I know Democrats run on progressive candidates and policies and run on them. Something is up, and I am not sure why Democrats, as progressive a party as they are, don't run on progressive wonky policies, don't run progressive candidates, and don't govern as progressives.

Why are Democrats so afraid of progressive policies?
