I’m not white, but I have been living in the US for about 10 years now. My family is from Latin America, but I was born in the US. I’ve never really felt like an outsider here and I feel like I have a leg up on most other non-white people.

I recently heard someone say that white privilege is “having it easy and getting everything handed to you” which is not the case for white people. It’s having opportunities you don’t deserve just because you’re white. I’m not saying you should take advantage of it, I’m just saying you don’t need to be ashamed of having it. It’s like the phrase “blessed” where people say you should be grateful for your life and everything in it. I’m not ashamed to be alive, I’m not ashamed to be white, I’m just ashamed of some of the people who are white.
