I'm currently trying to fly home from the US, and am now in danger of losing my job in Canada.

This all happened last night around midnight, and I'm still in shock about the whole thing. I'm a regular flyer, but I'm sharing this here in the hopes that someone can offer some advice.

I'm from Canada, and recently flew into the US for work. I was only there for 2 days, and had to fly back on March 12. The flight was from Seattle to Calgary, and was fortunately not very full. I took a window seat and kept my mask on the entire flight, not once removing it.

During a drink service, a man in the row in front of me pulled his mask down to take a sip of his drink. The FA taking orders noticed this, and politely reminded him to put his mask back up between sips, which is policy on our Canadian airline.

The man in question absolutely lost his mind at her. He was screaming at the top of his lungs, saying he couldn't believe he was being told what to do and that he didn't have COVID. He was making scenes, drawing in other passengers, and scaring a few people in the process.

The flight attendants eventually decided he needed to quarantine from everyone else, so they moved a few rows of people forward and made him sit alone. He was still screaming as they moved rows of people.

I was one of the rows they moved, and when I returned to my seat, the man who lost it at the FA approached me. I assumed he was just returning to his seat, but he stood in the aisle and starting talking to me.

He asked if I worked for the airline. I said no. He then asked if I was going to let them "take away my freedom like that?" Again, I said no. He then asked if I would let him into the bathroom with me so he could "relieve some pressure." Again, I said no, and told him to return to his seat.

He started talking about how I need to stand up for myself or I would lose my rights. He then said I looked "good" and I should take my mask off so we could have a conversation. I again told him to return to his seat.

He stood there for a while longer, talking to me about freedom and conspiracies and what not. We were on a plane, so there was no where for me to go. Eventually, he returned to his seat.

The flight ended up being uneventful after that. The man sat down and didn't bother me anymore, but the flight attendants were clearly shaken. When the flight ended, I collected my bags and met up with my Uber.

My issue now is my job. When I got home, I received an email from my boss asking why someone had called corporate security on me. The email said a man on a flight had called my company to say he saw me harassing people on a plane, and that I was disrespectful to the crew. He even went so far as to say I followed him into the bathroom and tried to fight him. None of that happened.

This is a huge problem for me, as I travel extensively for work. I'm a salesperson who is on the road 4-5 days a week, often in different provinces and countries. If this complaint goes through, I won't have a job. I rely on flying for everything, and this one man's lie is going to hurt my career.

Has anyone ever heard of something like this happening? I'm honestly not sure where to go from here.

\_\_\_\_\_\_\_\_\_\_\_\_\_\_\_\_\_\_\_\_\_\_\_\_\_\_\_\_\_\_\_\_\_\_\_\_\_\_\_\_\_\_\_\_\_\_\_\_\_\_\_\_\_\_\_\_\_\_\_\_\_\_\_\_\_\_\_\_\_\_\_\_\_\_\_\_\_\_\_\_\_\_\_\_\_\_\_\_\_\_\_\_\_\_

\*\*EDIT\*\*: Wow, this blew up fast. Thank you to everyone who offered advice. I was able to reach out to my boss and explain my side of the story, and the flight crew was able to back me up in their report. The man who tried to detain me was issued a no-fly ban from our airline, and the police at the airport have seen the security footage and agreed that I did nothing wrong.

I was also able to get advice from a few lawyers, who helped me write a cease-and-desist letter to the man who lied about me. I sent it to his work email, as provided by a kind Chambers sleuth. The police will also be paying him a visit to discuss why he lied to them.

Thank you all for your kind comments and helpful advice. I'm looking forward to my next flight now, and I appreciate the support from the online community.
