Gamergate: One year (and two months) later

I was a lurker during Gamergate, and I checked into a few threads about it on 4chan.

Gamergate was something that was beyond the realm of my understanding, and there was something about it that captivated me. It seemed to me like a new era in video games, that AAA was declining, indies were gonna rule and AAA would start to fall.

But they never did.

What happened in reality is: Gamergate happened, and we are still in the direction as we were before it. It is even worse than ever. Bungie, an ex Xbox exclusive(!!!) with Halo is now doing loot boxes in Destiny 2. It is a "game as a service" with loot boxes.

The next Call of Duty will be the same thing. With no campaign, and a huge emphasis on microtransactions. The next Halo game, and the next Gears of War game will be the same thing.

What was the point of Gamergate if we are getting jack into the mainstream for games? The only change it caused was that "gaming journalism" as an idea is dead. Just look at IGN, they are now a clickbait website that is pushing out articles 24/7.

The next gens coming out, and people are cheering? The PS5 is gonna be a system of games as a service, with huge emphasis on microtransactions.

What was the point of Gamergate if not to change this? Was it only to attack women? Or what? What did it achieve?
