Hi everyone. I've been an addictions counsellor for over 20 years and I have a Master's Degree in Counselling Psychology.

I've worked in several criminal justice drug abuse treatment facilities. Generally speaking, we see clients who are either mandated by the courts or paroled straight into our program. In other words, these are adult males who have committed crimes and are court mandated or paroled into our program because they have criminal charges or convictions stemming from substance abuse.

I've worked with thousands of convicted felons in my time. Many have been convicted of very serious crimes. The majority have committed crimes that are violent, such as armed robbery, assault with a weapon, attempted murder, 2nd degree murder, etc.

In my line of work, almost every client I see claims they have Antisocial Personality Disorder. Clients will say: "I'm antisocial, nothing will change that." I've also heard: "I'm antisocial and it's incurable." Several of my clients also claim that ASPD is incurable, or that, "I've always been this way" or, "Nothing will ever change me."

In my experience, if someone is Antisocial Personality Disorder, they won't admit it. In fact, if someone is truly Antisocial, they won't even care enough to know what that is. I've worked with someone who was truly Antisocial. When I told them they had an antisocial personality disorder, they looked me straight in the eye and said, "I don't give a shit if I'm Antisocial." That was the only time someone told me that they didn't care if they were diagnosed with Antisocial. More often than not, if I tell someone that they have ASPD, they begin to argue very vociferously with me.

So, change my view. Convince me that most people who claim they have ASPD actually have it.
