What is this? Does this happen in India? (Indian-American here)

So I turned 18 this year and I registered to vote. I was walking home and this person came up to me and asked me if I was going to vote for Biden or Trump. <br><br>I said I don't know and was about to walk away but he said please vote for Biden because he will be better for the country. Why is this person telling me to vote for someone? Why is this legal? Shouldn't I make my own decision?<br><br>Suddenly I miss voting in India.
