It seems like it's very popular to claim that due to the fact that Trump won the Republican nomination for president and the fact that he is expected to win the presidency, that the US is heading on a path towards fascism, authoritarianism, and all sorts of other sorts of stuff that tends to happen in autocratic regimes. I don't think this is the case at all, and I would love for you guys to change my view. I think the US has a large amount of checks and balances that sorts of things from happening. Trumps surrogates and supporters can spout whatever they want, but at the end of the day, there's not a lot of they can do. I refuse to believe that the US military and other defense and law enforcement agencies would not resist him from doing anything too crazy, not to mention congress, the courts, and the American people. I think this is just unnecessary panic, and the US is not anywhere near to falling under authoritarian rule. I refuse to believe that just because Trump won a political contest, the US is in danger of falling into a situation where our individual rights and freedoms might be violated, and I'm not sure where this fear is coming from. Please convince me I'm wrong.

Edit: I think a lot of you are misinterpreting what I'm saying. I’m not saying that Trump is not a threat to democracy or individual freedoms, I’m saying that I don’t think he will be able to undermine either of those things. I think there are a lot of institutional barriers stopping him from doing that.
