It is the equal belief in an almost mythical capitalist utopia and a fear of communism that has led to the American working class being diametrically opposed to its interests for most of the 20th century.

When we hear the term "capitalism" today, we should think of imperialism; we should think of endless war, of colonialism, of the destruction of democracy, of an unending struggle to exploit the land and people for power and capital.

We oppose "capitalism" to "socialism" as though the two are "equals." Capitalism is **not** the equal of socialism. Capitalism is the exploitative relationship between oppressor and oppressed. Imperialism is the "capitalism" that ensures the constant exploitation of land and labor for capital. "Capitalism" is built on top of the skulls of the native peoples of North America, of the enslaved black workers, of the Mexican workers who died toiling in the California gold mines.

We must oppose this exploitative capitalist-imperialist system. **The United States is not a "capitalist" country. It is an imperialist nation.**
