Wouldn't a wealth tax be a solution to the issue of the 1% and billionaires amassing too much wealth?

In the US, you have the problem of billionaires and the top 1% having too much wealth. But why can't the issue of wealth inequality be solved with a wealth tax? Something like a 1% wealth tax or even a 10% wealth tax could solve the problem.

A 10% wealth tax on Jeff Bezos' $166 billion would equal $16.6 billion in tax revenue.

Or even a 1% wealth tax on Bezos' $166 billion would equal $1.66 billion in tax revenue.

This wealth tax, if implemented correctly, would pursue the wealth of the top 1%, and not the bottom 99%. Some people say that we need progressive income taxes, but these are already implemented. The wealthiest people in society do not earn their wealth through wages/income, but through other means like stocks and bonds.
