How did the internet go from anarchy and freedom to corporate asslicking and elitism?

Why do people today use words like "fluid" and talk about how the internet is a "tool" nowadays? What happened to the rise of the meek? All this shit about people being offended and the normies obsession with freedom of speech being bad seems like a conspiracy to suppress dissent and anarchy. Remember when the 4chan motto was something like "the internet is serious business"? When did we get here? What is the future like if it isn't total chaos and revolution? Any thoughts?
