What would have happened if the Early Christian Church had a doctrine of pacifism?

The early Christian church was NOT pacifist, but for the sake of argument, let's say they were. They would have had a huge problem with violence. What would have happened if they all refused to serve in the legions? Refused to go to gladiatorial games?<br><br>How would the Roman authorities have reacted to this? Would they have been persecuted on that basis alone?<br><br>How would this have affected the Roman legions? The Christian church had millions of adherents in a very short amount of time. What portion of the legions would have been Christian? What would have been the military implications of having a large number of soldiers all of a sudden refusing to serve?<br><br>How would this have affected the fall of the Western Roman Empire? A lot of theories have been proposed about why the Western Roman Empire collapsed so quickly, from climate change to leaded pipes. How would widespread Christian pacifism have contributed to this?
