What happened to anime in 2020?

In 2020 there were barely any animes released, just a few remained from 2019 and some others that got delayed due to COVID-19, i wanna know why this happened, it never happened like this before in the history of anime, did anime studios got shut down? No new animes were announced? I'm really lost here, was it COVID-19 the only reason?a<br><br>*Side not: i'm not from Japan*<br><br>edit: sorry for the post, i just saw some other posts about this, so its pretty controversial, but i appreciate all the info provided to me by everyone, i just wanna say that 2020 was a really bad year for anime, hope in 2020 it gets better, and thanks for everyone who helped me understand this situation.
