In a representative democracy, citizens elect representatives to represent their views and interests. In a republic, citizens elect representatives, but they also elect representatives to represent the views and interests of their constituents. The difference being that citizens elect representatives to represent the views of others.<br><br>The US is not a direct democracy. It is not a republic. It is a representative democracy. <br><br>Why? In the US, we elect representatives to represent our constituents. We do not elect representatives to represent the views and interests of our constituents.
