“Scary” girls scare me

I am a 30M middle school math teacher. I have taught for 4 years and in that time I have had a few “scary” girls in my class.

What I mean by “scary” is that these girls are often angry, violent, and unempathetic. When my classes are tough, it is usually because of these types of girls.

One time a girl in my class got in a fight with a classmate and the police ended up arresting her for a knife she had on her.

One time a girl in my class beat up another girl in my class who was on the honor roll and sweet. I heard her parents were arrested for child neglect and she was living with her aunt.

I had another girl in my class who always had boys outside of class beat up the boys who would talk to her during class. She would just watch while the boys she dominated would beat up other kids and smile.

I had another girl in my class tell the principal to fuck off when the principal asked her to stop talking quietly with her friends during class.

Whenever I have these “scary” girls in class, I make sure to always show them extra kindness, empathy, and individualized instruction. I never punish them for anything and instead send them to the principal. If I punish them, I feel like they will personally attack me.

I have learned to not take home any papers that these “scary” girls wrote on, because they will sometimes threaten me in their writing.

I give them extra credit for anything they want and let them do whatever they want during lessons and never call them out on anything.

I make sure to never misgender these girls even if I am not sure what pronouns they use because I don’t want to make them angry.

I never try to catch them doing anything wrong because I feel like that will make them angry and they will personally attack me.

I make sure to never accidentally look into their eyes when talking to them because I feel like they will take that as a personal challenge and try to fight me.

I usually ask for help when I have these “scary” girls in my class. I don’t think there is anything wrong with asking for help. I feel like any teacher who tries to do everything by themselves is arrogant.
