This happened to me when I was in high school back in 2019, and it just occurred to me to write about it here. I’m currently in college, but I’m still taking online classes so I’m back at my parents’ house for the time being.

I live in a suburb of Chicago, and I really like the vibe here. It’s a relatively safe area with low crime. It’s a nice community with lots of kids, but there are also some older people living here too. We have a community college nearby that my older siblings have gone to, and it really is a wonderful little place.

The incident happened when I was 16 years old and a junior in high school. We didn’t start until 8:30 am, and I always got to school at 7:30 am. I’m a bit of a morning person, and I liked getting there early so I could grab a coffee and do a bit of work before my first class.

My locker happened to be right next to a main staircase, so I saw a lot of people walking in during the early morning hours. One guy who I saw all the time was this tall, lanky kid with bright red hair. He had very pale skin and blue eyes, and his hair was always kind of frizzy. He was pretty tall, and he had long legs and arms that seemed to go on forever.

I saw him around a lot since he walked up the stairs from the main entrance, and I always smiled and said hi. He was very quiet, and he didn’t seem like much of a morning person. Sometimes he would say hi back, and sometimes he just looked straight through me.

Well, one morning he really caught my attention as he was walking up the stairs. He was wearing a Michael Myers mask from Halloween, the white one that’s blank on the front. I thought it was a little bit weird since we weren’t anywhere near Halloween, but I just assumed he was some kind of horror movie fan.

I thought nothing of it, and I went to my locker to switch out my books for my first class. I looked over to my right to see him walking into one of the classrooms next to where my locker was. He still had the mask on as he walked inside, and I thought that was a little bit strange.

But I thought nothing of it, and I went to my first class. I had a pretty ordinary day, and I didn’t see him again at all. It wasn’t until lunchtime that I started hearing the rumors.

Apparently, a lot of people who had early classes saw him walking around. Some people said that he had a knife, and some people said that he had a gun. I don’t really know what to believe since I didn’t see him at all after that, but the other students in his class said that he didn’t have any weapons.

Apparently he walked into the classroom, and he sat down in one of the seats. He didn’t do anything at all, he just sat there until the teacher told him that he couldn’t be there. He stood up, and he walked out of the classroom. The teacher followed him, and she called security.

They apprehended him somewhere outside the school, and they called the police. He was taken away in handcuffs, and the school had an assembly later that day to talk about what had happened. They said that he was a student who had been having a lot of difficulties, and that he had previously threatened to do harm to other classmates.

I never saw him again, and I didn’t hear anything else about him after that. I really do hope he’s okay because he seemed like a really troubled guy, and I hope he got some help for whatever problems he was having.

So yeah, that’s my Let’s Not Meet story. I have no idea what would have happened if he had a knife or a gun, but I’m just thankful that nothing happened.

**EDIT:** Wow, thank you all for so many responses. I really appreciate all of your kind comments, and I’m so grateful for all of you who rewarded me with awards.

A couple of things to answer some of your questions: the main entrance is not the only entrance to the school. We have entrances from the parking lots too, so I have no idea where he came from. Also, we didn’t have any metal detectors, and the school wasn’t very locked down.

One more thing, I do feel sorry for this guy, and I really do hope he got the help that he needed. I completely agree with the comments about mental health, and I’m very much aware of the fact that mental illness and trauma are often the cause of violence.
