CMV: The idea that people will have a significant amount of free time once we transition into automation is ridiculous

I know people will say "oh well I don't have to work 8 hours a day anymore and can have a great life". I disagree, and here's why. People who are currently unemployed and don't have to worry about making money have the worst quality of life.

If everyone else became unemployed it would be extremely hard for them to survive. It would be extremely hard for the average person to pay for basic needs like food, clothing, rent, etc. The only people who would be able to survive this are those who were currently wealthy or at least self sufficient.

There's also the problem of there being no way to assign value to someone's time. If someone works 8 hours at McDonalds making $15/hour, they can afford rent and other necessities. But if they didn't work those 8 hours, there is no way to measure the monetary value of what they would've done instead of working. The government can't just give you money for doing nothing. And it wouldn't be fair for them to give you the money you would've made working at McDonalds if you didn't actually work.

Another problem is that currently, education is valued. People who are educated have better paying jobs and are considered better than those who are not educated. If we transition to automation and everyone doesn't have to work, it will become extremely hard to assign value to education. Why would I want to spend a lot of time and money on education when I could just chill all day and not have to pay for food?
