My 17M long-distance boyfriend (bf) bought me some gifts. Feel weird.

My bf and I have been together for 3 years. We go to different schools, and I haven’t seen him since the lockdown started in March. Our relationship has been really strong, we talk 24/7 on Snapchat. Anyway, he asked my mom if he could send me some gifts for my 17th bday (last month). I wasn’t expecting anything, and I thought it was really sweet.

I got a box in the mail yesterday, and my mom said that it was for me, and I already know that it was from my bf. But it was really weird opening the box and seeing all the gifts inside. He got me my favorite snacks, socks, a ring, a necklace, and a bunch of other stuff. I got a really weird feeling when I was opening them. I’m not really sure what this feeling is (I’ve never gotten gifts in the mail before). It just feels so surreal to know that he was physically holding the gifts and was putting them in the box to send to me, but he isn’t and can’t be physically with me to give them to me in person. It feels like I can smell him on them or something (they don’t really smell like anything though).

I feel bad for even getting upset over how he showed his appreciation for me. I know that he was just trying to make me feel special, and he wanted me to feel like he was still with me and thinking about me, but it just feels really off. Anyone else in a long distance relationship ever gotten gifts in the mail and felt like this?
