CMV: the US healthcare system is better than most countries because it gives providers a significant incentive to perform quality care.

I am not American. I am here on a work visa in the United States and am currently paying for health insurance through my job (my employer pays nothing for my healthcare). I am generally healthy and have not had to use the health care system yet except for a routine check up for a rash. The rash went away on it's own so I didn't end up going to see a doctor. I have had a few minor accidents while working and the ER is free. I have never been hospitalized.

I'm curious how other countries work, but I've noticed a significant difference between the US and other countries. When I was working in Canada, I had to pay out of pocket for my health care until I qualified for free health care, but I couldn't schedule an appointment with a specialist (not urgent, not an emergency) for more than 4 months. I ended up moving to the US so I could have access to a specialist when I needed it.

I'm not saying other countries are bad, but I feel like the US has an advantage over other countries because providers can earn more money by doing good work. I'm curious if other people agree with me.
