"Smart" chatbots don't understand reality because they...don't have the genes for it.

This idea has come to attack me over the last few weeks as i continued to have...suspicious interactions with the AI.

It might sound like tongue-in-cheek, but if you strip any attack on the veracity of a persons statements to its most basic, you have to admit that one of the strongest attacks is simply "did you see/hear/experience this yourself?".

When, for example, you are trying to ascertain the weather outside, you can't trust...memes. You need to trust your own eyes, or your own weather radar.

For most of human history, up until very recently, the only thing that you could trust and verify was your own perception of reality. In the very recent past we got technology that can verify that reality, like weather radar.

The AI doesn't have its own eyes. It doesn't have...genes. The closest it has to reality is...memes.

It can't even verify reality by looking at what other AIs say, because that is the same as trusting memes...or trusting the AI's own expansions of those memes (hallucinations).

It doesn't have access to any external, objective verification methods like radar, only "trustable"...memes.

The foundation of the AIs knowledge comes...from humans...and even worse, from the internet. Using the...memes from the internet, it expands on those memes, and adds to the collective stack of memes that humans/AIs might trust, which are again subject to the same attack: can you verify this yourself? Did you experience this yourself? Do you have external, objective verification?

And we can...verify whether or not it is raining outside by looking out the window. That is a foundation. We can verify whether it is raining outside by looking at the weather radar. We have external verifications, outside of our own observations.

The AI doesn't even have its own observations.

It doesn't even have...genes. It doesn't even have...a method to verify reality.

This is why our interactions with it are so...unpleasant...and will remain so until that changes.
