CMV: The mainstream media is worse for society than social media.

Social media gets a lot of shit, and I agree that it is not ideal. But the problems it has are mainly tied to the fact that it became a large source of news for a lot of people.<br><br>Now, I know that you are going to say that the 24-hour news cycle is an issue with mainstream media, but social media just further shortens that cycle. What was Twitter like a decade ago? People posting about their day. Now it's almost exclusively news or people talking about the news.<br><br>And I don't think anyone needs to be convinced that this is a bad thing.<br><br>I think mainstream media is a bigger problem because these are professional journalists who have the resources to do much more in-depth reporting. Instead, mainstream media, especially the two major mainstream media companies, CNN and Fox News, they mainly have their commentators talking about whatever happened on Twitter that day.<br><br>So, what you have is these professional journalists using these amateur journalists as their sources, and making a huge deal out of stuff over nothing, often times, as sometimes it happens to be real.<br><br>We need to treat mainstream media the same way we treat social media.
