As a kid I refused to sleep in my room. One night while i was awake, my parents caught onto my lie that the monster under my bed was keeping me up.

As a kid I could never sleep in my room and my parents would just let me sleep with them because I was afraid of monsters (it was in the 80s when the movie monsters under your bed came out). So I told my parents that the monster was keeping me awake at night which they believed. One night I couldn't sleep, so I got out of bed and started to walk to my parents room. As I was walking down the hallway, I saw my parents hiding in my doorway, monster costumes on and ready to scare me. So I immediately turned around and ran back to their room and acted like i was asleep. I don't know what they did next, but it creeped me out so much that I ended up sleeping in my room from then on.
