Memes are like digital artifacts from history

The funny thing about memes is that they are often a reference to a joke/person/thing that only existed for a short time in history but are preserved through memes. For example, every Charlie bit or Pingu meme is proof that those two existed - we even have proof that they were funny to millions of people at one time.
