CMV: I believe the majority of the homeless population are alcoholics or drug addicts, and the only solution is to give them a one way ticket out of state or out of the country.

I've noticed that the homeless people I encounter are overwhelmingly intoxicated. The vast majority of them are not mentally ill, or physically disabled. The ones who are are a small minority, and are in my opinion far easier to help, since there is a clear diagnosis, and a clear treatment. The homeless alcoholics and addicts seem to be there because it's fun. They are out on the streets having a good time, enjoying the company of one another, getting drunk, and high. They aren't there because they're being harassed by family members or something like that. They just seem to like the freedom and lack of responsibility.

I'm sure this is a problem in your area too, but the only homeless population I am exposed to are in Los Angeles, San Francisco, and Seattle. The alcoholics and addicts seem to outnumber every other type of homeless person by a wide margin.
