Amazon said it deletes about 1 million reviews daily, and the rate is increasing.<br><br>The company said it has filed a complaint against nearly 2,000 users who allegedly posted fake reviews on its website.<br><br>In the U.S., the practice of buying and selling fake reviews is "increasingly prevalent," Amazon said in a news release published on Wednesday. It claims that multiple Amazon customer accounts are being used to write fake reviews, and in some instances, the same phone number and email address is being used.<br><br>"Amazon wants to ensure customers have a free choice in selecting a merchant," the company said. "The practice of fake reviews violates Amazon’s marketplace policies."<br><br>It did not disclose the names of the users who face legal action.<br><br>According to a report by the company, Amazon blocks and deletes about 1 million fake reviews from its site every day, but that rate is increasing. As a result, Amazon said it has implemented a system to deletes fake reviews in batches, which are reported by its algorithm software.<br><br>"The merchant can then have his account suspended or terminated if he does not comply with Amazon’s policies," Amazon said.<br><br>Amazon also urged its users to work together to identify and stop illegal fake reviews.<br><br>Rosalia Mociuta, an Amazon customer from the U.S., said she has been noticing a surge in fake reviews lately.<br><br>"Whenever I buy something now, I take extra steps to verify that the product is good and trustworthy," she told CNBC.<br><br>In a separate case, the Federal Trade Commission (FTC) said it was investigating the practice of fake reviews, which it claims is a widespread problem.<br><br>The FTC said it was working with Amazon and other e-commerce companies to stop the practice.
