As an American, the UK has made me realize what being a white woman is like.

The UK has made me feel what it’s like to be a white woman. It’s an eye opening experience.

The way women walk away from a conversation with you like their life depends on it. The way you can be talking to someone at 9am, then see them in the supermarket and they completely ignore you. Women completely ignoring you when you talk to them, women walking past and saying “oh sorry” even though you’re standing still, women that just watch you up and down when you talk to them like you’re disgusting, women that watch you when you eat, women that don’t allow you to use the bathroom at their house even if you’ve known them for 9 years, women that don’t allow you to go swimming with them.

Women not believing that you’ve been in a relationship with a man or that a man has assaulted you. Women that tell you that a man saying “oh sorry” to you is flirting. Women that try and get you drunk at parties. Women that say things like “oh sorry about what he said, it wasn’t him it was the alcohol speaking” when a man has said something vile to you. Women that tell you it’s your fault that a man has raped you, women that say “well what were you doing at that time” when a woman has been raped. Women that tell you it’s your fault a man is abusive, women that tell you to just “go and talk to him and he’ll stop being like that” even though you’ve told them a hundred times he’s violent.

The lack of women that will date you. The women that say “oh well you can’t get any woman, you need to work harder” even though you’ve been working 40 hours a week for the last 10 years. The women that don’t understand why you’re single and just make things up like “oh you’re not good looking” even though you look like Jessica Alba. Women that tell you they’re not interested in you even though you’ve done everything for them.

I used to not understand why men hate women until I moved to the UK and experienced it for the first time. Now I understand.
