What is something that you saw or heard that meant you had to call the police?

I saw a post like this on a different sub and I was about to post there until I realized it was locked. It made me think of something that happened a few years ago. I was working in the ER and the paramedics brought a girl in who had been kicked out of a house party and was badly beaten and had clearly been raped. She was semi-conscious and when we asked her what happened she said she couldn't remember. In order to do a rape kit, we have to have the patient's consent, or if they can't give that, we need the consent of the next-of-kin. When we called her parents, they said we couldn't do it. Unfortunately, that meant there was basically no chance of catching/prosecuting whatever monsters did this.<br><br>When I was taking the story the paramedics gave us and putting it in her chart, I heard her say "I think it was the football players." I stopped typing and turned and asked her if she remembered something. She said no, it just popped into her head. To me, that meant she remembered something, she just didn't know it. I ran out into the waiting room to find her mom and I told her what her daughter just said. Her mom immediately said the football team had been the people hosting the party she was kicked out of. I asked if she was going to reconsider letting us do a rape kit and she said yes.<br><br>I'm very glad I decided to tell her that. She was actually able to pick out two of the men who did it and the DNA we collected was a match to them and they went to jail.
