What is going on with all of these idiots talking to themselves on the street?

My friend was walking home last night and saw a guy talking to himself on the street, my friend thought nothing of it until another 3 guys were doing the same thing, each one walking in a different direction, at different times. Why are so many people talking to themselves on the street lately? I have a few theories but I'm interested in yours.
