I have noticed a pattern where if a gay actor comes out then they are immediately celebrated and admired. An example of this is Tim Cook, CEO of apple, his sexual orientation was hardly known by most people but once he came out he was celebrated by the LGBTQ+ community (as he should). The reason why his sexual orientation was not outspoken is because people didn't know what his views on it was. Once he came out he was celebrated.

However actors like Tom Hiddleston or Benedict Cumberbatch who play gay roles and eventually play gay characters are not appreciated by the gay community. The Tom Hiddleston example is one of the most prominent. His portrayal of Thomas Sharpe in Crimson Peak was a gay character. In an interview he mentioned how he (and all actors who play gay roles) think that it is not a big deal for an actor to play a gay character. This caused a massive backlash from the gay community. The LGBTQ+ community then labelled him as a villain who hated gays.

So in conclusion, gay actors are only celebrated by the gay community if they are gay themselves. I am not saying the gay community shouldn't celebrate gay actors but it is wrong to label actors as villains if they are open about not being gay. A good example of this is Neil Patrick Harris. He is openly gay. So when he plays a gay character the gay community watches it happily as they see one of their own play a gay character. If a non-gay actor plays a gay character the gay community is often unhappy with how the character is portrayed which i believe is arrogant on their part.

EDIT: Sorry guys, i will reply to comments in 2 hours. Got work to do.
