Just walked around Manhattan (NYC) and I felt unsafe

I (26M) just walked around Manhattan with some friends and it felt unsafe. Too many aggressive panhandling, too many homeless that appear to be mentally ill. <br><br>Before you tell me I’m a snowflake white person that has never been to a city, I am Latina from Dallas/Fort Worth and have visited many cities including Miami, Chicago, Denver, Austin, LA. But today’s experience in Manhattan felt unsafe. I think Manhattan has declined.<br><br><br>EDIT: Based off the amount of views I am getting, I’m going to update. I spoke to my friend again and we realized we were in the Garment District and not Midtown. It makes more sense now that it was not a typical tourist area.
