I am definitely not a theologian and I'm only about 50 pages into the book, but N.T. Wright's view of Heaven resonates with me as probably the most Scripturally authentic and realistic.

To put it quickly, N.T. Wright claims that this Earth will be redeemed, not melted and turned into Hell as some believe. Instead, God will renew this Earth, making it part of the new Heavens. This is why many think of Heaven as a place we go after we die. We die to sin and are "born again" into His kingdom. Our "69 Corvette will be considered garbage compared to our new resurrected heavenly bodies. C.S. Lewis put it this way in Mere Christianity: "If we consider the unblushing promises of reward and the staggering nature of the rewards promised in the Gospels, it would seem that Our Lord finds our desires, not too strong, but too weak. We are half-hearted creatures, fooling about with drink and sex and ambition when infinite joy is offered us, like an ignorant child who wants to go on making mud pies in a slum because he cannot imagine what is meant by the offer of a holiday at the sea. We are far too easily pleased."

I'd love to hear your thoughts!

Source: N.T. Here is the proper format:

****CMV: N.T.
