In Thailand, if you want your fruit (coconuts, durians, bananas, etc.) picked fresh, throw the money and/or an empty fruit skin at the fruit vendor.

In Thailand, many roadside fruit stands are simply a small stand near the road and the actual fruit trees are 50-200 feet away in a grove. The fruit vendor really just acts as a middleman between you and the fruit picker. Then you realize that the middleman doesn't actually know you've purchased/are purchasing fruit.

The middleman is talking to others, browsing social media, or just bored to death so it's not like they're constantly watching you.

To inform the middleman you want a fruit or have purchased a fruit, you simply throw those items at the middleman. This is 100% socially acceptable. The middleman will look up, see where the fruit came from and know you want a fresh banana, for example.
