The Ezekiel Elliott Fiasco

The NFL has an openly sexist CEO, and is notoriously sexist overall.

This makes the NFL's treatment of Ezekiel Elliott...odd.

For those of you who are not football fans, Zeke, the star running back for the Dallas Cowboys, was accused of domestic violence against his ex-fiancée, Tiffany Thompson.

Tiffany Thompson is a darling of the patriarchy. She is a woman who literally fits all of the patriarchal gender roles, and yet she was not believed by the NFL, and now Zeke has successfully gotten his suspension overturned.

Why? Why would the NFL punish a man for domestic violence, but not for openly being a sexist piece of crap?

The answer is that the NFL pissed off the wrong man in their quest for sexism. When the NFL suspended Zeke, despite their disgusting sexism overall, they pissed off Jerry Jones. For those who are not football fans, Jerry Jones is one of the most influential owners in the game. He is the reason the NFL is headquartered in Texas, and he has money and influence. For those who are football fans, you will notice that Zeke is one of the first players the NFL has actually penalized for domestic violence, after a huge media outcry when they let Ray Rice and Greg Hardy off with little punishment. This was an attempt to save face...and it backfired.

You see, Jerry Jones didn't want Zeke's suspension upheld. He's one of his star players, and Jones doesn't want any players penalized for "off field activity". Zeke's suspension being overturned is a win for Jerry Jones...and the NFL's sexism has taken a hit.

It's a very rare occasion where the patriarchy has hurt itself by being sexist.
