Men are not protecting women

For some reason I keep seeing this phrase used. It’s either from men or women saying men are protecting us but I don’t see evidence of this. If men were protecting us from themselves, they would not rape us, they would not abuse us, they would not insurge us. They would listen to us. They would believe us. If men were protecting us, they would protect us from themselves. They are not. That is the reality ?
