What anime would you recommend to someone who doesn't really like anime?

I'm not sure what sort of criteria would need to be met for this, but I thought it'd be cool if we listed some recommendations on what anime we think would be good for people who don't like anime. I'll start with some obvious ones that I really liked, and that I showed to a few friends who don't like anime:

Being an old fan of Star Wars, I could really sympathize with the story of Akira Kurosawa. (The man who inspired Star Wars).

1. **Akira (1988)** Man on a motorbike, with psychic powers, in a world of post-apocalyptic destruction. Directed by Katsuhiro Otomo.

Then I thought about shows similar to Star Wars in quality and feel, for this I'd recommend:

2. **Space Dandy (2014)** Action-packed space exploration, with characters from all different sorts of species that can inhabit space. (Sort of like Guardians of the Galaxy, but with a more ethnic twist).

3. **Outlaw Star (1998)** An anime series that was made specifically for western audiences for a while, in terms of its directing. (Along the lines of Space Battleship Yamato, but more recent).

4. **Space Adventure Cobra (1982)** This series is a weird favorite of mine, because it's a 3D-animated anime that's so well-made, that it was mistaken for a Disney film in some parts of the world. (I love both the anime and Disney versions, for different reasons).

5. **Macross: Do You Remember Love? (1984)** Another Star Wars-like film, which was even considered a Star Wars film in some parts of the world, because it's so similar in style.

6. **Dragonball: The Emperor's Ball (1986)** Although I'm not a big fan of Dragonball, this is the most quality video of the film I can find. It's what I feel to be the best of Dragonball Z, because of its quality animation, and the fact that it's not as long as Dragonball Z. (Dragonball Z appears to be everyone's first anime, which is sad because it's not that good of an anime, but not bad either).

7. **Dragon Ball Z (1989)** I love this anime, but it's not like the greatest anime ever. I love it because of the character designs, the story, not so much the animation, as much as I love the art style. Dragonball Z is one of the most popular animes ever, and it's impressive to a degree because of the scale of story and characters.

All of these anime have amazing animation, storytelling, and are well-loved by fans. (They all have good quality remakes too, for the most part, although some of them are harder to find than others). I'm not listing any recent anime, because they're not as well-known globally, but they're still pretty popular in their own right.

**Orignal Post Byu: /u/BloodOnMySausage**
